I choose Polesoft Lockspam to fight spam, and you?

Those are all of the "updates" that have installed via XP Updates.
If none of the updates have caused you any problems then you can manually
delete these folders.
Their main purpose is for you to be able to uninstall a specific update if
it gives you problems.

Yes, you can delete them (all except the $hf_mig$ one). You will lose
the ability to ever uninstall the associated hotfix, but if you are
sure you will never need to, go ahead. Go to MVP Doug Knox's site,
http://www.dougknox.com/, click on "Win XP Utilities" on the left,
then choose "Remove Hotfix Backups"

Personally, unless you need the disk space, I'd recommend leaving all
of them there, just in case. And if you need the space that badly,
deleting them would just be a stopgap measure anyway, and you need to
buy a larger drive.

If that's how you feel why not recommend compressing them?

That's an alternative, but if you don't need the disk space, why do
anything at all to them? They don't really take up much space at all.

I'm not disagreeing with your recommendation. The only reason I delete
these items is to shave a little time off the imaging of my system
partition.

I do this (deleting the uninstallers) once, maybe twice a year, and only
for updates that are months old. By then I know whether a given update
has caused any trouble (which has yet to happen to me.)

Many thanx for a quik response

To Peter,Ken,Gerry,,Leonard.
I am well enlightened now

OK, but I can't imagine that you're saving anything more than a few
seconds. I do all my backups at night anyway, so I'd never notice
whatever time it took.

Same here. I've never needed to use any of these files. Perhaps I'm
being overly cautious, but on the other hand, the penalty for keeping
the files seems so slight that I'd rather err on the side of caution.
