I am using Windows XP home edition as my operating system. I get a message on startup that says essential windows files have been changed for unrecognised files. When I try to restore using the restore disks that came with the computer, the computer does not recognise the disks. Any suggestions.

Hi,

Redirct the restore function to the I386 folder on the hard drive, most
likely under C:\Windows. This is where most system preinstallers put this
critical folder, as you cannot access it through the image on the recovery
disks.

You may need to set folder options/view tab in the control panel to see
hidden and system folders in order to do this.
