Dear All,

Server OS - Wndows 2000 SP4

I am currently monitoring the server with WMI tool and with this error, the
winmgmt.exe uses cpu upto 99% power.

I am trying to install the WMI Redistributable Components version 1.0 from
the following location :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...84-3946-44A9-AC3C-BF2A569EAA72&displaylang=en

But it gives me error for Windows File Protection with Event ID: 64002 and
Description : File replacement was attempted on the protected system file
c:\winnt\system32\wbem\winmgmt.exe. This file was restored to the original
version to maintain system stability. The file version of the system file is
1.50.1085.100.

I have tried the following combination :

a) Install and uninstall, install and reinstall.
2) install, reboot, uninstall and reinstall.
3) install, uninstall, reboot and reinstall.

Need a solution for proper installation and normal cpu usage for this problem.

Thanks in anticipation.

Regards,
Nirmal

Do the updated versions of the redist Dlls get updated on your system? There
are just 3 Dlls in that setup, and there is no reason for winmgmt.exe to be
involved - that MSI file doesn't install it. If the updated Dlls are
installed you should be good to go. The protected file message implies that
winmgmt.exe is in some other MSI-based setup and installing this redist is
causing a repair to kick in and be denied because winmgmt.exe is protected.
The issue seems to be this system - does that MSI install ok on a clean
system?

Thanks Phil for replying.

I am able to install ok on clean system. Is there any way we can manually
extract the 3 required dll's and manually register on the affected system
without any impact on the system.

Hi,

I have tried manually registering the 3 dll files but still while using
wmi=yes in my monitoring tool, it takes morethan 95% cpu.

Request to help.
