Windows File Protection error - poor performance

Hoping someone has a solution to my problem. This morning when I turn
on my machine, I get a "Windows File Protection" pop-up saying that
components have been replaced by unknown files -- Insert the Win XP
CD. So I put in my CD and hit "Retry" but it opens up the autostart
Win Xp Install window (I have held the shift key to disable the
autostart too, but nothing happens). So, if I just try to ignore the
pop-up, I notice that my machine is performing very slowly.
Everything takes twice as long to load as it used to. I check the
task manager and notice that svchost.exe is taking up a huge amound of
memory. I searched my hard drive for the svchost file and found 2
(one is in C:\WINNT\system32 and the other is in C:\I386). Is this my
problem for slow performance and the "Windows File protection" pop-up
I get at startup? Please help.

(I have run a full update virus scan..so no Welchia or Blaster)

I'm sorry, but it certainly does sound like virus infection. Are you
sure you are using updated definitions? There are lots of other viruses
besides Welchia and Blaster. Try the scan in Safe Mode. Please post
back for more help.
