Windows Fax

I have upgraded to Vista Home Premium and cannot find the Windows Fax
program that was a printer option in XP and W98 and before perhaps.

Seem to recall in was hidden in the previous versions and had to be
installed separately from the CD.

Where can I locate this in Vista?

It's not included in Home versions of Vista. You'll either have to
upgrade to Business or Ultimate or get a third-party FAX program.

Google for a program called Snappy Fax.. at $30, it is way cheaper than
upgrading to Business or Ultimate versions.

Thanks Mike and others

It is a pity the Vista Upgrade Advisor didn't make this clear.

How can I find out if MS intends to incorporate this in the Home Premium
service packs? Surely it wouldn't be difficult - and the fax option for home
users is a more than useful one. Certainly not worth the $800 (US$ I
presume - a lot more here - Oz).

I've been a MS supporter for 20 years (every upgrade since DOS 3.?) but this
omission and a few other things have me wondering about reverting to XP. The
old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" comes to mind.

As far as I know, Fax will not be offered.. it does seem strange to take
that feature out, but who knows.. maybe MS Marketing will relent, and
somebody will make it possible to be offered as an option to those who want
it..

I have to agree, leaving the fax utility out of the Home Editions is very
unfortunate and inconvenient. I purchased Home Premium for my new system and,
frankly didn't give the faxing feature much thought since it was standard in
XP.

I don't want to upgrade to the Business Ultimate version just to get faxing
and a third party solution could work but it may not have the tight
integration with Outlook that the XP fax solution had.

Since there is no direct upgrade path from Home to Business Ultimate (only
the full upgrade) I would hope that Microsoft would make the fax feature
available as an add-on applet, either free or for a nominal fee.

You're assuming that Microsoft cares about their paying customers. They
don't. So, if you're expecting a fax add-on for Home Premium, don't hold
your breath.

Now you know! Microsoft doesn't give a shit about their customers. They come
up with all these different versions of Vista for marketing reasons and
cripple "features" in one version just to make more money selling the more
expensive version without the feature crippled. Who wants to have to spend
a month researching all these versions just to make sure that something as
simple as FAX works before they purchase? Microsoft just doesn't care about
its customers and treats them as easy targets for exploitation.

Recently a MVP was attacking Alias because he hadn't yet gotten FAX working
on Ubuntu. The MVP didn't bother to mention that one couldn't even get it
working on Fista (Home Editions) without spending money to purchase a
third-party solution.

Love and Kisses,

For all verision of Vista

Yes and if you have one line a good fax switch.
Fax software at snappysoftware.com Snappy Fax Verision 4.0 is working fine
for me.

Also I only have one line for data and voice.
I bought a fax switch from Stapple.
It was ComSwitch 5500 and I used the Semi-automactic mode and it works great.

Please reveal where the Vista Fax is hidden.

It's not included in Home Basic or Home Premium. You need to upgrade to
Vista Business or Ultimate to get faxing capability.

What a sorry state of affairs, and MS has changed the way Vista prints
things, so 3rd-party vedors are having some troubles getting their fax
software to work properly!
