windows failing to recognize my cdrom drive and usb

my cd rom is not being recognized by my windows xp and
under properties under device manager it says error code
39.
I had appropriatly installed the hardware and tried
multiple times. I even have tried a different brand cd
rom drive with the same result.

I do not have the original software that came with the cd
rom drives (mitsumi)but I did not need them when I
installed windows xp.

When I reset the bios to use the cd rom as a startup disc
and put my xp cd, it works appropriatly.
Somehow, windows xp is failing to recognize my cd driver.
My usb is not being recognized my windows either but no
error message are posting.

not sure on the USB. check your device manager for more details. update to
SP1 if you have not already and update all your hardware.
