My Windows Explorer is configured to open files in a new window, rather than
within the folder window.

How do I change the configuration to open Explorer files within a folder
window and not in new a new window?

Any help is appreciated.

Files or folders?

From Windows Explorer, click Tools, Folder Options.
Select "Open each folder in the same window"
Click OK.

Thanks for the clarification. It is folders within a folder window.
However, when I do what you inidcated, it does not work and the folders are
opened in a new window.

Insights? I appreciate the help.

Your question is confusing. There's no such thing as "Explorer files." There
are Microsoft Word files, Excel files, JPEG files, etc. When you open files,
they open in the program appropraite to open them in--Microsoft Word, for
Word Files, Excel, for Excel files, etc--not in Explorer.

If you're asking about opening other folders, rather than files, go to
Windows Explorer or My Computer, then Tools | Folder Options, and choose
"Open each folder in the same window."

I am trying to open folders within a window from Explorer.
I have done what you suggested, but no luck.
Selected folders still open in new window.
If I open multiple folders, I end up with multiple windows open on the task
bar. Very annoying.

But thanks for your help.
