I have Windows XP and seem to have an issue re Windows
Explorer. Each time I initiate a search it will run for a
few seconds then error message box saying Windows
Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. Also if
I go to Control Panel and click on any option i.e.
Performance and Maintanence or try to get to System
Restore the same problem occurs.I can get to System
Restore by other means so that is not too critical, but
can any of you good folks explain what happens when
Microsoft gets the the message sent to them? Also is there
anywhere in the Knowledge Base where I may be able to
start to try and solve this problem myself or with help
from others?Everything else is O.K.Regards.Julie

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also,
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode.

Dear Malke. Thanks for your reply.I'm running Spy Bot
Search and Destroy/Norton Anti Virus 2004/Ad Aware/Ad
Shield/Zone Alarm. With Ad Aware and Spy Bot I run them
both after each session and always check for updates
before doing so,so perhaps a virus or spyware isn't the
answer.I feel the answer may lie in Explorer itself.Again
is there any K.B. stuff I can check out. Thanks again for
your reply.Regards Julie.C.
