Problem: In Windows Explorer, my various external usb drives and burners do
not have the correct icons; as a result, it is difficult for me to
distinguish one burner from another when writing CD's or DVD's. The icons
that do appear do not even look like cd drives, for example.

Equipment: HP 3 GHz computer, with Pentium4, WinXP with SP2 and all current
updates installed

Question: Is there a way to control which icon appears with a piece of
hardware?

Thank you.

In Windows Explorer select Tools, Folder Options, File Types,
Advanced, select File Type e.g Drive, click on Advanced, Change Icon,
select your Icon and click on OK.

Hope this helps.

I tried as you suggested. Problem, the icon I wanted to change did not show
up under File Types. The only drive icon that did show was the hard drive
but not floppy, or cd drives. So what I ended up doing is changing the names
of the drives to something meaningful. This helps but the icon is still
wrong. More ideas.

Thanks,

Vic

Sorry, Gerry, I tried as you suggested but repair icons does not seem to
affect the attached hardware icons. Any more ideas?
