I have had this new computer and vista for two months now and had no problems
but when i turned on the computer today a window pops up saying -windows
explorer has stopped working and it is searching for a solution, then another
window pops up saying it is restarting window explorer. It is continually
doing this, as I am typing and everything. I went to the problem reports in
control panel and this is what it said
Problem Event Name: WERCWEvent
Problem Signature 01: explorer.exe
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386
Problem Signature 03: 4549b091
Problem Signature 04: 155
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Extra information about the problem
Bucket ID: 12247686
what dose this mean and what do I do about it?

Hi,

If I had to guess (and I am), I'd say you have managed to get some spyware
installed (or is trying to install itself) on the system.

Had you made any system changes, updates, or installed any software
recently? Checked the event viewer for further clues?

Gee, the "Windows Explorer has stopped working/is restarting" problem is so
random, isn't it ? I had that happen to me heaps of times.

Do you get any other bucket ID? I don't see that as a valid fault bucket
number...

Zach,

Any chance you can pin this one down?

Assuming you're referring to the exact same bucket (a single character of
difference would make it an entirely utterly different issue):

That's an empty bucket (no data), so nobody will have anything interesting
to go on. If you have a DMP file, that might be interesting to analyze, but
those are typically pretty piggishly big since they can need to contain a
lot of data.

The spikes in this bucket seem to correspond to third party software
releases... ? So that's suspect. (Most Microsoft sourced crashes would
tend to have a fairly linear appearance rate - but this isn't definitive,
just pretty much the only interesting data point at this time.)

I am not going to find any data for most buckets of that nature, sorry.
I've requested some and hopefully I will get access to some data here, but
barring that this is probably at a dead end until a DMP file is supplied,
sorry. *Presumably* some will show up shortly, though. I'll cross my
fingers. =)
