Windows Explorer Slow To Access Particular Folder

I have two picture folders, both of which contain photos from the same
camera. The first folder has about 2700 files. The other folder only has
about 700 files (and the files are the same average size, and same naming
convention as the ones in the larger folder). Both folders have single word
names, less than eight characters. Both folders are at the same level in the
directory (G:\Media\{Photos1 and Photos2}).

The first (larger) folder opens without delay. The second folder seems to
take about 5 to 10 seconds to open. However, if I rename the smaller (delayed
opening folder) to anything, it opens immediately. This seems to continue for
at least another day, before it begins to lag at opening again. However, If I
rename it back to the original name immediately after renaming it, the delay
returns.

The folder settings for both folders are identical (displays "Details", not
"Thumbnails"), and Windows Indexing Service is turned off. There are no
additional file types in the slow opening folder, and I have tried deleting
the "Thumbs.db" file, reset the view settings (identical between both
folders), and I have defragged the drive.

What gives?

I had the same problem a few days ago and I ended up solving it with a "trial & error"
solution.

When I checked the properties of the slow folder I noticed that it had some read-only
files in it (the "Read Only" checkbox appears ticked but with a grey background).

I turned off the RO attribute for all the files in the folder and the miracle occured. Now that
folder opens as fast as every other in my PC.

I'm not saying this is the best solution, in fact I'm not that happy about solving the problem
but now knowing the reason. But, at least I solved until I can find why the hell this happened.

Maybe a permissions issue?
