Windows Explorer Problem

When I go to Windows Explorer, it just sits there and doesn't expand the
folders for a good 10 to 15 seconds...Then when it does expand the folders,
and I choose a folder to view the contents, it just sits there again for
another 10 to 15 seconds before allowing me to view the contents...

WinXP Pro
768 MB RAM
Athlon 1.5 GHz
120 GB HD (28 MB free)

Would having only 28 GB left on the hard drive cause it to do that?

GB or MB? MB, yes, GB, close.

Alias wonders:
Yup, GB...Looks like I'll break down and get a bigger hard drive, move stuff
around, or just start from scratch again...

Thanks for the very quick reply,
The Baba

Have you tried doing a clean up, emptying Temp Files, Temporary Internet
Files, both on and offline, if you use Firefox, emptying those temp files
followed by a defrag? You might also want to look in your Java temp files.

Try running the edit on Kelly's site, line 157, "Prevent Automatic
Folder and Icon Refresh": http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

I do all that religiously a few times a week...I went out and got a Maxtor
120 GB hard drive at CompUSA for $60 this afternoon, and moved a whole load
of stuff onto that, and the problem went away...I can't believe CompUSA had
something on sale that didn't include sending away a rebate, or two...Will
wonders never cease?

Thanks for the response...

I must confess, I have never been to CompUSA in my life ;-)

When I left the States, the hottest PC was a 286 with a real *floppy* drive.

Well, consider yourself lucky, cause you really ain't missing
much...Everything they have on sale needs one or two rebates that take
forever and a day to receive, and they have the worst customer service of
any computer store around...That's why I was so surprised they had the hard
drive on sale with no rebate, and I was amazed they still had some in stock
since the flyer came out last Sunday...

I'll still probably reformat in a month or so, cause it's about that time...

Adios,
The Baba
