New XP user, new machine
Windows Explorer keeps shutting down. I get to do about 3-4 things, like
moving files, renaming etc and then get a message saying Windows Explorer
has encountered problems and needs to close. I sent the message to microsoft
by clicking the send button but the reply referred to only 4 things, none of
which applied to me (software on my computer). This has occurred since I
brought the machine home but I am reluctant to return to the place of
purchase as I will have to go without my computer for at least 24 hours. I
have searched many places on the net for a cure to no avail. I would be
thankful for any help.

Cheers

i too am having this problem. I wasn't sure what was
causing the problem - so I rebuilt my machine - and it
has started again...looking forward to someone who has
resolved this issue... The crash is logged in the Event
Viewer with the following description:

The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was
restarted.

There is no other useful info in the event log...

Thanks in advance for any guidance :)

Resolution that worked for me:

If you have Spybot installed, open it, go to Immunize, and uninstall the
browser helper that blocks bad downloads by clicking the 'Uninstall' button.
This will remove the BHO (browser helper object), SDhelper.dll, which may be
causing a conflict.

Please post back with your results. I have another suggestion (much longer)
if this doesn't work or doesn't apply.
