hi!

i have an hp nx8220.

the system profile is as follows:
OS : Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Yapý 2600
System : HP Compaq nx8220 (PY517EA#AB8)
Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1995 Mhz
(2GHz)
BIOS : Hewlett-Packard 68DTV Ver. F.14, 18.08.2006
Memory: 1 GB DDR
Harddisk: Hitachi HTS541080G9AT00 (80GB Travelstar 5K100)

initially windows shows 74 GB rather than 80 GB.

ok but the real problem is different.

when i receive my laptop, there was single prtition c: with 74 GB.
then i used PowerQuest PartitionMagic Version 8.01 (Build 1274)
14.03.2003 to devise a 3 partition disk. i first created a new
partition D:. now c: = 30,2 GB and D: = 44,2GB. then i created a new
partition e: 20,0 = GB leaving d: = 22,2 GB.

but the problem is that there "happened" a new redundant and probably
mistaken partition called "Z: Local Disk". and it is 0 byte!!! and
most interestingly only windows explorer is aware of that Z: !!
partition magic and disk management can't just see it.

so, what to do?

please help...

regards...

This is normal. Manufacturers report drive size where 1GB is 10^9 but
computers use binary where I KB = 1024. So to get the actual size the
computer will see multiply the manufacturer's number by .93. So an 80GB
drive is seen as 74.4 GB.

You could try deleting those two partitions so there is only unallocated
space, then create two separate partitions out of the unallocated space. Or
delete both new partitions, create one extended partition encompassing all
the unallocated space, then create two logical volumes of the size you want.

Other option is to use a different partitioning tool such as Acronis Disk
Director Suite 10 or BootIt NG.
