Am I the only one or is windows explorer in vista is so so so ugly? I
installed a copy of "xplorer2". At least I can browse the hard drive
without wanting to thow it our of the window anymore! If anyone knows
of an explorer replacement with Win XP looking folder icons etc let me
know. That would be even better...

I've used Power Desk for years through many versions of Windows, and it
behaves in Vista pretty well.
It's typically the first thing I install.

No, you are certainly not the only one.

I find it quite nice myself. If you don't like it, stick with XP.

You like it? I was wondering how many do. I did read a few articles
generally positive but disparaging of Windows Explorer - they called
it Vista's worst feature. I also emailed the chap at xplorer to ask if
he has a Win XP themed version (which he doesn') and he said his web
site was getting more hits on "vista explorer replacement"). Not
upgrading is no longer an option for me after spending £250 on the
upgrade (yes its double the price - $500 - for those of us who live in
the UK). Also all machines will come with soon so I may as well get
used to it now.

You say you like it... Can I ask do you hide the favorites link at the
top? If so did you find it easy to hide that? (I had to search on the
web) Also have you enabled the menu bar or left it hidden? If you
unhide it do you notice how poorly it blends with the overall window
theme. Rather than looking a natural part of Aero it looks tacked on
and ugly to me.

Also if you have a folder open do you notice that it is harder to see
in the tree than on WinXP explorer? No longer is the icon different,
you just see the folder name in bold.

Also when browsing the c drive you now have that much less screen
space to work with becuase you have more desktop things above you. In
fact everything is taking up more room anyway so the tree geneerally
display much less for the same size window. That goes for all the
Vista fonts and application borders I guess.
