The font of one of my files in windows explorer has turned to the color blue.
All other files are written in black. Under properites it says that the the
file type is FILE.
When I click on it I get the pop up to chose a program to open it but none
work. The file was created in nov2004 but only turned blue recently. I dont
know what is in it.

By design, WinXP automatically compresses files that do not get used
frequently, and, if you've left the default settings intact, displays
those files in blue.

If you wish to change this behavior, in Windows Explorer, click
Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced settings: Show encrypted or
compressed NTFS files in color.

Windows 2003, XP, 2000 and NT all have a "feature" where the system
"decided" to "compress" a file that has not bee used/accessed for a
long time. The file itself should still be able to be read, with the
orginial assigned Windows application (based on the File type.)
However, I do not know which Windows application can create a file as
FILE type.

Thank you very much....How can I open it...It is file type FILE.
Thank you

You'd have to determine precisely what type of file it is. Set Windows
Explorer so you can see the full fule name, including the extension;
this should tell you what application is needed to open the file.
