When I try right-clicking in Windows Explorer and go to 'New' to create
a new folder, Explorer starts hanging. I can use other items on the
menu, such as view and refresh.

My computer is a HP NC6220, and it is running Microsoft XP
Professional.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tone,

* Open Regedit (Start > Run, type regedit, click OK)
* navigate to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Do you have a sub-folder named 'New' when you expand the
'ContextMenuHandlers' folder?
If so, click on the 'New' folder, on right-side pane the key shown should be
named '{D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}'

Note:
Before making any changes in this area, right-click on
'ContextMenuHandlers' , select 'Export', name & save the key to a safe
place. Click this saved key to return to before the change.

Thank you so much for your reply. I do have the 'New' folder in the
registry, with the correctly named key.
