windows explorer freezing

"My Computer" or Windows Explorer is freezing up on me for no apparent
reason with quite some frequency. Sometimes other things are freezing,
even occassioally forcing me to reboot by killing power because I cant
use task manager. But the problem that happens the most is explorer
freezing. I do not have folders with hundreds of files in them. I am
not running loads of programs while this is happeneing (in fact usually
nothing else). I have enough disk space and ram. I have run my norton
utilities system check and disk check, ms anti virus, lavasoft spyware
finder, norton antivirus, even hijack this. I cant find a solution. Any
ideas?

Since you've ruled out virus/malware infection, it's time to do some
hardware troubleshooting. Random lockups are often caused by failing
components and/or overheating. Here are some general hardware

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).
