Windows Explorer Folder Pane Greyed out.

M

Michael

Running into a odd issue, on a Windows 2000 Server running SP4. When we
open Windows Explorer, and it doesn't matter how, either by shortcut on
Start Menu, using the run line and typing explorer, or right clicking and
selecting explore.

The folder pane or left pane is all greyed out, the right hand pane works
fine. I havn't yet been able to find anything on Technet.

Any suggestions would be great.

TIA

Michael

Oh man I looked at that again. Please don't do this. Or at least backup
that key. You might need to replace things such as the search page.

Hi Michael,

If the resolution in KB818090, as suggested by George, does not solve the problem you
may be able to solve it by reinstalling Internet Explorer. For more information, see
the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article that includes the following text...

"SYMPTOMS
In addition, the Folder view pane in Windows Explorer may be blank or gray
instead of having the folder tree view."

KB265829 - AddRemove Programs Tool May Not Work After Installing Internet
Explorer 5_5 or Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 2000

Or, if you want to try a registry fix published at the "Tech Support Guy Bulletin
Board", see the following Web Page. Note, after the regedit you may need to log off
and then log back on.
