Windows Explorer.exe keeps crashing/restarting

Hi,

Although it happens under other circumstances, windows explorer.exe
keeps crashing/restarting most often when I click on a desktop
shortcut to 'Program Files'.

I don't know much anout computers but I've looked at the Event Viewer
and in the Application Log it says:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Winlogon
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Date: 13/08/2004
Time: 08:29:52
User: N/A
Computer: JOHN
Description:
The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

When I look at the System Log there are 3 entries which consistently
appear a few seconds after the above:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7035
Date: 13/08/2004
Time: 08:29:58
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: JOHN
Description:
The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service was successfully sent a start
control.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The other two entries just say that "The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
service entered the running state" and then that it stopped.

Can anyone help please?

I'm running Windows XP Home on dialup & have Avast!(free) AV and
Sygate(free) PFW

Explanation
The DHCP Server service did not extend the lease on your computer's IP
address, so your computer temporarily lost its connection with the network.

This could be caused by a scope change. For example, when a roaming laptop
moves from one network to another, its IP address lease might need renewal.
When the DHCP Client service tries to renew the address, that request might
go to a different server that will not extend the lease either because it
does not know about this address lease or because it has already issued the
address lease to another client.

This also happens when two DHCP servers are configured to give out addresses
in the same IP address range.

User Action
No user action is required. The DHCP Client service will continue trying to
obtain a working IP address until it succeeds, and DHCP establishes the
network connection on its own.

Thankyou for replying Cedric, but the explanation is so far over my
head it might not be worthwhile for anyone to intepret it for me! I'm
not on a network - just a single-user pc.

All I know is that the problem is relatively recent - it didn't happen
before - in the good old days 'sigh'
