Windows Explorer Error

P

Porky

I get a persistant error message " Windows Explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." This message comes back after a
few seconds when "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send" is
selected. It also comes back after a reboot.

Error signature
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1221 ModName:
powrprof.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2600.0 Offset: 000011c6

Any help on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

This is pretty vague, so please do the first steps of Windows
troubleshooting:

1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before running,
and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete
temporary and Temporary Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services
programs from starting with Windows - see www.blackviper.com for
services info and www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs
info - 5) look in Event Viewer for clues.

After you've done these things, if the problem persists then repost. Be
sure to include information about your system (processor speed, amount
of RAM), how you connect to the Internet (method and ISP), if you know
what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't,
and what you've already done to troubleshoot.
