Windows explorer error

I have a PC that a windows explorer error occurs when it
is opened, no other programs are running. "The instruction
at "0x03b4b9c0" referenced memory at "same location". The
memory could not be read. click OK to terminate the
program, Click cancel to debug the program. If either
options are selected the applications in the task bar
close and cannot be restarted; unless the PC is rebooted.
I have checked TechNet and searched other locations for
the answer...Anyone seen this problem? The PC is W2k SP4;
Office XP SP3, IE6 SP1 all updated to the latest and
greatest from Microsoft, Symantec no viruses found, Memory
modules OK they've been tested.

The issue is a result of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 namely Critical updates for Internet Explorer that came out in 2003. Try this and see if it helps:

Start | Run | regsvr32 /u thumbvw.dll | OK | OK. If it doesn't help then just do this to get back to the way you were.

Start | Run | regsvr32 thumbvw.dll | OK | OK.
