Windows Explorer error at startup

James

I have a very stubborn problem here. I'm look for anyone else's help. At
startup and error box comes up saying "windows explorer has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The
startbar is also frozen so I have to use command lines.

I have cleaned up my computer from malware and virus using DrWeb CureIt!,
Malwarebytes, CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, OneCare
Scanner, avast scanner and Norton 2008. The error also occurs when trying to
move a file in safe mode. I have checked and unchecked startup items to see
if I could stop the error message but none of them worked. Clean booting
didn't fix the problem. I have sent my HiJack this log to a technical
support person and I have already fixed the items that he said. I have run
sfc scannow and it found nothing. I also have run chkdsk and it also didn't
fix anything. Every system restore point I try to use says it didn't change
because there were no changes to make. I do not have the windows xp
Installation CD since Best Buy installed it at purchase. I can get into
recovery console though. Making a new user account doesn't work either.
This isn't a result from downloading XP SP3. I got SP3 on May 6th and this
problem started July 4th. I'm also up to date on everything from microsoft
update to the definitions of my cleaning tools.

If anyone can help me please post but please read everthing I have done
already since the problem still exists.----Thanks

If you had that much infection, your operating system is probably damaged.
Back up your data and:

1. Try a Repair Install. Yes, you will need a real XP install disk and it
must be the correct version (either a generic OEM or a branded OEM is my
guess since you reference BestBuy).

2. If the Repair Install doesn't work, return your computer to factory
condition by using whatever method the computer mftr. provided.

Ok I can't get a CD and to do a repair install or clean seems like to much
work since I don't want to lose all my programs like reactivating norton or
getting my office programs or anything else like itunes or what not.

Did you get the modname and version.
Click on the link which says "click here" in the error window which will
help you in the root cause of the problem. Let us know the Modname: and
Version:

User32.dll is the core system file and i see the version on there is more
different than the normal one(5.1.2600.3099), the infections might have
damaged it(5.1.2600.5512).
Uninstall SP3 from the recovery console and then re-install SP2. then try
installing SP3.

Ok I'll try unistalling sp3 & sp2 then reinstalling sp3.

Don't you know that 5.1.2600.3099 is xp sp2. XP SP3 is 5.1.2600.5512.
I did reinstall sp3 and it didn't fix anything.

So you wasted all that time when you could have ran my little tool in about
30 seconds. But of course you think there's porn on my site and believe what
they say about me. Your loss.
