the only way to display it is from task manager by pressing ALT + CTRL + DEL

every time i'll start windows i'll use this silly way
so please i need my pc to start normaly

hi, ive just had the exact problem, even booting into safe mode had the same
results ... anyways i fixed it by rolling the PC back in system restore which
luckily was scheduled for 04:00am this morning

i had tried re-installing drivers for my gfx card, but that didnt work and
ended up using ctrl-alt-delete - start process < then navigated to system
restore >

i have no idea what caused it, so try that and gluck

hi Tega , first i'd like to thank you fro repling
in fact i did system restore as an idea for many points and it didn't work
i don't want to re-install the operating system it'll cost much efforts so ..
any one has any idea plz post it .. thnx for advance

Could it be the Shell setting in the registry?
The Reg_SZ called shell should = explorer.exe

Check here

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Shell explorer.exe

Guy;

Thanks something of what I was going to suggest. I was going to mention
system.ini though (which is probably out dated info).

I know in the 98 days and prior the "Shell=" used to be in system.ini. But
now it's in the registry...Good to know.

If the other advice does not fix the problem and if you have a Vista
installation DVD, you might want to try a statup repair. Boot from the Vista
DVD and then follow the instructions on this website.

i have the same problem but explorer will not even manually start, how could
i check the 'shell setting in the registry' ?

I had a problem when windows explorer kept restarting. I have a workaround if
System Restore fails to correct this. For me, It even occured in Safe Mode.
1. Make your way to starting Internet Explorer
2. on the address bar type:"control panel"
3. go to User Accounts...-> Add User account-> Create New "Admininstrator"
Account.
4. Shut down manually if you have to and reboot and access the new Admin
account
You will now have new account with all original programs still installed and
access to old files via either:
a. Internet exporer-> Address bar-> type: C:\users\ your old user account name
b Start button-> computer-> C:\Users\ you old user account name.

* You'll find here folders which will contain you old docs, downloads, etc
from you old account.

Thanks,

Guy,

I had the exact same problem as others here. When I checked this registry
setting, I found it set to 'Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Config\lsass.exe'. Could
this be indicative of a virus? Lsass.exe is supposed to be in System32 I
believe. I did not find a copy of 'lsass.exe' in Config. I'm going to run a
full virus scan now.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

James
