Windows Explorer directory keeps refreshing

I couldn't find a separate area to post questions about Windows Explorer, so
I'm posting it here. The situation I am encountering is more of a nuisance
than an actual problem but I still need a solution. I have a directory in
Windows Explorer where I store hundreds of mp3 files that I play on my
computer. I will scroll down to find a song, but after a couple minutes, the
list of files will return to the top of the directory automatically, instead
of staying at the point the I scrolled to. I then have to manually scroll
back to where I was before, which can get to be pretty frustrating after
awhile. Any ideas on what is happening and how I can fix this?
thanks

hmm?, saw your other post.

i suppose it sounds like your
explorer window is simply
refreshing, thus it causes
the listing not to stay stable.

so the question is why is
it refreshing and if the refresh
rate can be adjusted:

I did a search on this question

and pulled up this webpage:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm

you can go to

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

and run the edits on line 157, 199, 204 and/or 317

before you run any of the above,

"MAKE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT"
or
"A BACKUP OF YOUR REGISTRY"

something to keep in mind is that
antivirals that monitors your file
system by scanning frequently can cause
your explorer to refresh as well.

if the none of the above work then
maybe you could use the "search assistant" feature
of explorer and manually build a search that
lists your mp3's. because your list
is manually produced it may not refresh
by windows. of course if you needed that
list you make to refresh, then you would
click on the start search button.

if the list you produce is reasonable
and seems stable for use,
then you can save it and then
place a shortcut to it on your desktop.

also, maybe it would be better to use
a third party utility that creates
custom listings of your files and
will likely give you lots of user
features; in addition.

i saw something on FileForum
regarding some freeware that "index's" files the
way you want and organizing them
the way you want.

though i recall one specific
freeware, there are likely
to be others.
