Windows Explorer Crashes

Hi,

I have three PCs, all with XP Pro. I run Automatic Updates on two, the other
I usually update manually.

Anyway, since the latest update, the two that have been updated have regular
Explorer crashes. When Explorer.exe crashes, the desktop dissappears, as do
all the icons in the system tray. Once the desktop reappears, some but not
all the system tray icons return.

The un-updated PC is fine.

Is anyone else experiencing this as a result of the most recent Windows
Update? Any fixes?

I have had the same experienences on my updated XP system. I have done pc maintenance (defrag, system file cleanup), scanning for viruses with updated virus definitions, and downloading/running Spybot S&D for adware/spyware. It was suggested that some some "malware" maybe causing the problem. I am still having the Windows explorer crash (disappearing desktop icons, system tray icons vanishing and returning with missing icons). This is reproduceable by going into "Control Panel" and opening the "Printers and other hardware" option. I, too, would like to try any other sugggestions that anybody may have.
