Windows explorer crashes on Send To

I have a shortcut to WordPad (among other programs) in my SendTo folder.
If I right-click on a file that has no extension and try Send To
Wordpad, explorer crashes with the "Windows Explorer has encountered a
problem and needs to close" dialog. Everything works fine if the file
name has an extension. WordPad is just an example - any other program
has the same effect.

This problem has existed as long as I can remember, but no amount of
sending the report seems to have come up with a fix.

I had a similar problem where my SendTo context menu would slow to a
crawl.

I had created a few SendTo's that allowed me to easily send stuff to
the Desktop's for each of the users on our home network (Jane's
Desktop, Joe's Desktop, etc.) Unfortunately, if any of those users
weren't logged in, it would cause my SendTo menu to bog down.

The solution was to map each of their Desktops to a (persistent) driver
letter; and then have the SendTo point to the mapped drive letter,
*not* the UNC address. Once I changed that, my SendTo context menu
works fine regardless of who's logged on or not.

I hope this is helpful to someone.

best,
JohnB
