Windows Explorer Bug: Folders will not expand in the tree

The tree control in Windows Explorer that represents the directory
stucture no longer works. When I click on folders in the tree they
will not open. If I click on a folder in the righthand side of the
window then that folder will open and the tree control will expand
itself to display the folder that was opened. Likewise if I enter a
path into the address bar the folder will open and the tree control
will update itself to show the selected folder.

What's the deal? Norton Antivirus says nothing is wrong, AdAware was
run, and the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool didn't detect any
problems either (though I understand that tool is relatively useless).
I also checked for critical updates on the Microsoft website and they
are up to date. I looked for suspicious executables in task manager's
processes tab and checked the names of most of the executables and they
seem like valid things.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition SP-2

What's going on?

What is interesting is that this patch doesn't break a few machine
like mine.

I always wonder some patches break some machine and not all.

That is dependent on the hardware/software mix of the pc.
This current rash of problems is a good example--if you don't have HP share
to web, kerio firewall,or nvidia drivers(confirmed causes so far) you are not
likely to be affected.
