I am getting a problem that I believe is Windows 2000
related. When I try to play a DVD on my DVD drive I get
an error. PowerDVD.exe has caused errors, will be shut
down by windows, please restart program. I also am getting
this same error with other programs. XXX.exe has caused
errors, will be shut down by windows. I need to know if
this is a windows problem or not. A few months back I
installed Norton Internet Security and GoBack. Ever since
I have had problems with my DVD Rom, CDRW, and other
errors listed above. I also have Nero and InCD that I had
just uninstalled, and also installed Adaptec CD Creator on
my compouter some time ago. I have the Windows Cleaning
tool but I am afraid to use it because it may wipe out
everything. This may be a problem of program leftovers, I
think?
Any help would be good.

Thanks,

Todd

Todd;

I would try uninstalling Go-Back and Norton internet
security. When you uninstall these programs, do not go
on the internet untill they are reinstalled as you will
run the risk of a virus. If you still recieve the
errors, you can try running SFC /scan now. this will
check the system files to make sure that they were not
modified and if they were modified, they will be restored
from the orrigional. You can also try deleting the temp
files and clearing the temporary internet files. You may
also want to run a scan for spyware; I recomend using
Adaware.

I hope this helps;

Rob,

What is SFC /scan now?

This soundslike a spyware problem. You might want to try running SpyBot
Search and Destroy. I have had luck with it on many occasions. From my
experience, anti-virus/computer protection software is very ineffective. If
you keep your computer updated with all WIndows Updates, Almost every virus
is blocked from attacking your computer. Spyware is a whole different field
though.....
