The first thing to do is make sure the computer is virus/malware free:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

When you know the machine is clean, if you still have the problem do
clean-boot troubleshooting:

Restart your computer and note the precise time the Error occurs. Let
the computer complete loading Windows and then look in Event Viewer for
an error report firstly on the System tab and if not there on the
Application. Don't be fussy over a minute or two but ignore any messages
from before you restarted. Please post a copy here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hi
I tried everything you stated but I still get the error messages when
starting the computer. Even though I have registry machanic and spyware
blaster plus V catch and E Trust anti-virus. It started yesterday after I
tried to put panda anti-virus on and took off E trust, that was my mistake as
I had trouble getting all put back, but managed in the end. The two messages
that come up say something about the registry and delete it if nessary. They
have little boxes next to them and I noticed when I did that msconfig in run,
they were there as well, any ideas how to get rid of them would be great,
Thank you.

What is telling you to delete these items? Windows doesn't usually offer
that kind of advice. It may say it can't find a file that is referenced in
the registry. That's all it might say but a third party tool might expand
on that fact and be showing you a message.

Does the message mention a specific registry key? Does it look something
like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\RUN\

I'm guessing because your next statement:
They
have little boxes next to them and I noticed when I did that msconfig in run,
they were there as well, any ideas how to get rid of them would be great,
Thank you.

Says these items show up in MSCONFIG as well. There should also be a column
in this window that shows where the startup call is originating from -
probably the same registry key that the other message is telling you about.

MSCONFIG does show "little boxes" next to items. Unchecking the boxes in
MSCONFIG is one way to disable unwanted startup items. For the other boxes
you referred to... again, Windows error messages don't have boxes to check
or uncheck. This makes me think that maybe "system mechanic" or one of your
other tools is monitoring startup. It's seeing the same invalid startup
items that show in MSCONFIG and is offering to fix it.

Does that sound possible? Read the information in all of those windows a
little more closely. You may find clues to help you put together what it is
that you're actually seeing - You're saying "errors" but it's starting to
sound more like "reports of errors" with an offer to fix them.

I'm just guessing on this explanation. If you need help figuring out what
those windows/messages are saying, you need to post an exact description of
what you are seeing - word for word text of the messages would be helpful.

Hi
I have been through event viewer and this is what came up, I will try and
copy it to you.
This is one error as there is quite a few. Do you need all the errors? I
will include the two messages I receive after the computer starts and the
welcome comes up then the desktop and straight after that the first box
appears. It has five boxes at the left hand side in a straight line and the
message reads. Windows cannot find (it has two boxes in a straight line).
Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a
file, click start button then click search.
The second box reads: Desktop as the title on the left hand side and iis
starts the message with a yellow triangle stating. Could not run or load
then two boxes in a line. specified in the registry. Make sure the file
exits on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.
That is all it states so I hope this helps you help me to get rid of them.
Sorry I could not get back to you any quicker, I been out all day, hope to
hear from you soon, Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Hi
My computer is a Medion which I bought from PC World about 5 years ago,
can't remember exactly when. I have a product recovery c.d and an
Application and support C.D. The file system is NTFS and it boots alright
and I have not noticed anything wrong or not working. I am posting from this
computer as it is the only one I have. A few days ago it was fine until I
messed it up trying to put this panda software on from a email I got from
them, and took off my e-trust. Then I could not connect to the internet
until it took me about 10 hours to work out that my user-name was not
correct. That is when these messages started. Thank you for explaining how
to do things you want me to look at otherwise I would not have a clue. To me
the computer is like an ocean, it is very large and I will never know all
about it or remember. I hope you can still help me and if I put that
recovery disk in would I loose all my software ect. that I have installed?
Hope to hear from you soon, cheers.

I forgot to mention I keep getting error reports that I send off to
microsoft, it seems to be happening alot even when I leave here and start
closing the system down, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

I now need copies of those Error Reports in Event Viewer on Application
and System tab for the last 2 days. Post only copies of Reports where
the Event Type = Error.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double

error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two

message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make

BTW in what country do you live?

While waiting for your reply I have tried the following. I did that msconfig
in run and went to the start-up and unticked the two lines with the boxes in
a rowj. I restarted the computer and the error messages did not appear, but
it said about putting back to normal start up. When I do the two lines with
the boxes are ticked again, I can't seem to get rid of them. I am still
getting messages everytime I come off the internet and sending reports to
microsoft. So I don't know what else to do, I will have to wait for your
reply as I don't want to fiddle too much as I broke my last computer. Hope
to hear from you soon, Thank you.

For the Internet Explorer errors try:

Start, Run, type "regsvr32 shodocvw.dll" without the quotes and hit
ENTER. Check later after surfing whether the Application Errors have
ceased.

You also appear to have encountered problems on 15 November trying to
download the November Critical Updates. I am not sure why but you seem
to have tried to download / install whilst in Safe Mode, which has
resulted in services needed to execute the update not being available.

In normal mode select Start, Help and Support, Keep your computer up to
date with Windows Update and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Hope this helps.

Hi
I tried what you stated and when I pressed enter this box came up saying,
RegSvv32
Yellow triangle LoadLibrary ("shodocvw.dll")failed - The specified module
could not be found.
Also the error reporting box still comes up everytime I leave the internet.
I did restart my computer after doing this just in case it would work, but
no, it is still the same.
Any other suggestions would be great, Thank you.
