Windows DVD Maker stopped working

Obviously this should not be happening on a two-month-old computer.
Has anybody else had this problem? Is there an easy fix? Or do I have
a few weeks of Toshiba telling me it's a Windows problem and Microsoft
telling me it's a Toshiba issue ahead of me?

Did you install a codec pack onto this system?

The K-Lite Codec Package will definitely break DVD Maker. Other codec
packages may too. Avoid codec packs. They're irresponsible, and almost
every "quality assurance" I've seen for them is not even worth the paper
it's not written on. =(
