desktop windows manager stopped working

My new Toshiba laptop works great for a week. Then I get all kinds of
problems. One of them is DWM stopped working. When this happened, Aero 3D
flip stopped. Then, may be 1/2 later, Aero works again. So, it seems to me
that DWM stops and restarts by itself. Anyone has this problem? And how to
fix it?

I get the same thing. The desktop will lock solid but any program running
in background continues to work fine. The computer just looses all ability
to communicate with the keyboard or screen. Strangely enough the Aero flip
is about the only key combo that still works (for a while). I usually have
to do a cold boot.

Thanks, Mark
This morning MS automatically updated my laptop. Like a miracle, all
problems seem disappeared. No more DWM stopped working, no more Flash Card
stopped working, no more Windows Exploror stopped working, no more your Vista
not genuine, on and on.

Which update did you get? I only got 3 last night. The malicious software
tool removal, Defender definition updates and one to update the junk mail
filter. I feel so left out :-(

I viewed the Update History. Exactly like yours, 3 items updated yesterday
(malicious, Defender, and junk mail). It did fix my “stopped workingâ€
problems. Though Vista works better now, but I still have another big problem
– bootup with dump, sometime hang, black screen, etc. But it will bootups
eventually. I will post bootup problem in a new thread.
