After reinstalling Vista, I could'nt start the DVD Maker at all.
It prompt that i don't have a compatible MPEG-2 encoder installed to start
the application. I don't have this problem before the reinstallation. Is it
due to me installing NERO? but then i don't have that problem before. any
help will be muck appreciated as its kind of troublesome to reinstall Vista
again.

try going into Movie Maker... to Tools > Options > Compatability tab >
uncheck the Nero line items...

then try DVD Maker again.

Check your c:\Windows\System32 folder and see if the Microsoft MPEG2 codecs
are there...

MSMPEG2ADEC.DLL
MSMPEG2ENC.DLL
MSMPEG2VDEC.DLL

yes it is because of nero if u r going to use nero u can't use dvd maker. i
downloaded the trial for nero 8 and i got the same error. i also tried to
install my hp external drive that has nero with it and got the same thing. i
had to uninstall nero and i don't have a problem now.
