Windows - Delayed Write Failed

Recently when using excel 2000 several users (including myself) have been
getting the following warning.

Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file.
The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your
computer hardware or network connection.

We get this warning when you open an excel file or when you close a file
without
saving it (There are no macros in the files to save them on open or close).

It seems to only give the warning once for each file, if you open it a
second time it works ok. Some files work ok and do not show the warning.

We are using windows xp pro sp2 on a network domain with office 2000 sp3.

Can anyone please help with this issue, could it be related to a windows
update?
