Windows Delayed Write Failed

Help please!!

I randomly keep getting the following error message;
Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
drive_letter:\file_path\file_name. The data has been lost. This error may be
caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please
try to save this file elsewhere.

My system is as follows;
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 200MHZ
ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard
Hitachi HDS722580VLAT20 Disk Drive
1024MB Memory.
Running Win XP home

I have tested the hard drive using the Hitachi Drive test utility and it is
working ok.
I have tested the memory using Microsofts utility and it is ok.

I am running Tuneup Utilities 2006 and it detects no problems with the
registry etc.

None of the knowledge base articles seem to apply or can be used on my system.
My edition of XP is OEM but the computer is out of warranty so the
manufacturer isn't interested. Microsoft website says I have to contact
manufacturer of pay to ask them with no guarantee of fix.

What can I do? Contact MS and pay £35 or does anybody else have a solution?

Many thanks.

You might use the device manager to turn write caching off for the
drive.(Hitachi HDS722580VLAT20 Disk Drive) until you find the real cause.
It's also possible that something like an ill behaved antivirus program is
involved.

Thanks for that.Now that you mention it I did download AVAST anti-virus about the same time that my problem started. possible that it amy be the cause.
