Windows Defender with Zone Alarm and AVG

If I install Windows Defender should I remove AVG and Zone Alarm from
my XP home edition? I would like to leave AVG and ZA on if that will
not cause any problems. Advise please. I have a Compaq Presario
laptop.

Thank you.

No, definitely not. Each of the three is a completely different kind of
program, and you need all three types to protect you. Windows Defender is
anti-spyware, AVG is anti-virus, and ZA is a firewall.

In fact, you should install additional anti-spyware software. One
anti-spyware program is simply not enough. Note that Eric Howes, who has
done extensive testing on Anti-Spyware products, states:

"No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing
anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the
"critical" files and Registry entries" See
http://spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm

I would add at least one (and perhaps all three) of the following (all
free):

Adaware
Spyware Blaster
Spybot Search and Destroy.

If your System is healthy and doesn't have a hidden mountain of trouble then
they all can live happily and get Little guards to protect your computer<G>.
You don't need to remove any of the other software, keep them and get the
latest updates for their definitions and scan regularly your computer.

Thanks, Ken. I'll do that. Wow, that was a quick response. :>)
