Windows defender using 26 mg ram?

I just checked and MsMpEng.exe and MSASCui.exe are using about 26.5 of RAM.
My Avast AV shields only use 10 mg! Why is the program so memory
intensive?

As I've said before, I'd rather see a program that loads a huge definition
db when a full scan is chosen than one that exists in resident memory.

As a matter of fact, I would feel more comfortable if the MS signature db
were 50 mg and included protection against every known worm, trojan and
virus known since the advent of Windows 95 and the start of registry
problems.

One more time - why doesn't MS offer the best AV and Anti-spyware tools for
free since they have the size, money and employees to do it. There's no
reason hundreds of other software manufacturers should be making good money
off of our misery, and have these dangerous scripts cause us to submit
Hijackthis logs all over the internet.

MS must think we are all using 1GB of memory. Has you noticed that the
memory used actually drops when Defender is going a scan?

It looks like the Defender program is not a follow on to MSA but a new
program with new bugs and new problems. Why have a BETA1 if BETA2 is a
start over. Yes 26.5MB is too much. A real waste for a background program.
Ihave to use my memory to real work programs.

Whereas I agree with the request for additional protection against tracking
cookies (I'm not so sure on the AV point as I trust some 3rd parties vendors
more), I think you guys also need to get realistic about your PC memory.

I don't know what you're running but most gamers like myself are running 2GB
as a minimum now since the advent of games like BF2. (Windows XP actually
runs better on 2GB as well!!)

Also, when Windows Vista is out, the minimum memory requirement to run Vista
is 512mb.

Memory is cheap and I think you guys really need to be upgrading if you have
so little that you can't spare 25mb for Defender.
