In definition update 1.14.1927.13, we have turned on the software update
available tile for Windows Defender Beta customers. Users running released
builds 1.1.1592.0 or 1.1.1593.0 will not see this upgrade message as you are
running an RTM version. Please note that Windows Defender Beta 2 will expire
on December 31, 2006. If you see the tile, please click the download button
and install the most current release of Windows Defender. You can check your
version of Windows Defender by clicking the down arrow next to the help icon
and choosing 'About Windows Defender'.

Users with 64-bit operating systems will need to choose the 64-bit versions,
and if you are running the English version but would prefer German or
Japanese, please take this opportunity to install that language.

Thank for using Windows Defender,
Joe

I'm curious about what will happen to Windows 2000 users?

I guess it will be up to them to read the system requirements at the
download page and see the bad news.

Thanks very much for keeping us in the loop!

Hmm - I've just done a quick test on one such machine I am able to reach
remotely, and I'm not getting an update tile:

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0

Engine Version: 1.1.1804.0

Definition Version: 1.14.1927.13

Not sure whether that's good or bad--the app will expire at 12/31,
presumably.

The BAD news is, Win2K users are apparently S.O.L. Sounds like a Bill Gates
business decision to me...

Home user of Windows 2000 will need to find alternatives--there are a
number.

Corporate users may want to look into Microsoft Forefront Client Protection,
which does support Windows 2000.
