Have you observed whether the update version number (visible at the bottom
of the Windows Defender home page) changes? It may be that a particular
update is "stuck."
You might visit the security portal at:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal
and download the 32-bit definitions for Windows Defender, in the right
column (unless you are certain you are running a 64 bit version of Windows.)
Check the version number before and after this operation (open the
downloaded definitions and allow them to be installed!) and verify that they
have changed.
Then let Windows Defender run normally and see if this has taken care of the
issue.
