Windows Defender goes yellow

WD in my computer turns itself off and closes every ten to twenty minutes. I
spend a lot of time trying to keep WD running. I have been told that this
issue isn't a problem, OneCare can take over WD's task of scaning for
spyware. If this is correct, why not do away WD?

1. Not everyone has OneCare.
2. OneCare is not Free.
3. OneCare really requires a fast internet connection and is a dog if you
use a modem :p

If you are running One Care, it takes over WD's protection, displaying it
with its own user interface. It is, however, under the surface, using
Windows Defender code to do the work--so removing all of WD is not
appropriate. In addition, if, at any point, yoiu choose to not keep paying
for One Care, Windows Defender continues to be available for the antispyware
functionality that it provides.

I have One Care, Win Def always seems to tell me it is turned off, I follow
all the steps to turn on but never seem successful! is this because One Care
negates WD?
The little wall icon shows grey with a yellow circle with possibly an
exclamation mark in the bottom right hand corner, at times when I am online
the wall shows green running through it.

Yes - One Care explicitly turns off the "visible" part of Windows Defender.
Behind the scenes, however, the same level of protection, plus anti-virus
and more, is present--so you are well protected even without Windows
Defender being visible.
