Message: downloaded defender, no problem. I knew it was going to replace
your antispyware(beta). no problem. What it didnt do was add anything, or
catch the 8 tracking cookies that yahoo anti spy caught immediately after my
1st recommended defender scan( If yahoo updates monthly that is alot for
them) . What happened to the advanced tools section (system explorer, hijack
restore, and tracks eraser)????? I found those to be the jewels of your
previous anti spyware effort. Those are the things that put you ahead of
Lavasoft and spy-bot. Perhaps in my cursory first use of your interace I
missed them. I hope so!!. Please respond.
Thank You.

I am just a home user with no special expertise, so I won't attempt a
technical answer. However, MSAS never did remove tracking cookies and neither
does Windows Defender. Let AdAware and Yahoo take car eof them. I don't get
many anyway because I set Internet options to block 3rd party cookies. About
Defender: I don't think it is an accident that the icon for Defender looks
like a fortress wall. The shields are the key, and they are more advanced
than MSAS. Keeping exploring the interface, especially the tools section.
Browser restore and tracks eraser are not there and I miss them too. But the
others are excellent. While you are at it, you might also explore the event
viewer in WindowsXP administrative tools. WinDefend is integrated there as a
system service and all scans, updates, and configuration changes are show in
Event Viewer. I have Defender set to alert me to ALL program changes to my
system, even from known programs. It alerts me to changes in my anti-virus
and firewall settings and to my drivers when I log in to AOL. I've not seen
another anti-spyware program this sensitive to Windows system changes. That
is what is going to alert you if a Trojan or Malware gets past your other
defenses, before it can install itself and wreck your PC.

If you want a tracks eraser, try MRU Blaster. It does a very good job of
erasing your MRU tracks.

I personally miss the system explorer something fierce. I really
loved being able to see what was really going on. I also really
regret the fact that I can't get to the real time agents (or am I
missing something?).

I wish we had a choice, use defender, or pay a fee to Giant and
keep their excellent package....; )

If you scroll down in general options, the list of real-time agents is
available and they can be individually selected and deselected. I don't
recall whether they are as well described in help as they were in the old
program.

ON the General settings screen, you have to scroll down to see where to
enable real time protections and change other settings. It took me 2 days to
realize that the scroll bar was there and that I had missed seeing those
settings. Also you have software explorers available onthe tools screen,
just not as many. What I miss is being able to examine each protection
checkpoint and make changes to specific items only. I also miss the browser
restore features that are gone. If you do make a decision about blocking or
allowing software to run, it shows up mostly in the History screen.
Quarantine and Allow screed pertain mostly to things blocked or allow during
scans. History shows decisions made using real time protection alerts.
