Windows Component Confusion.

Catarina Valente

I kindly request clarification with respect to Components displayed in
Window Component Wizard.

1) Internet Explorer - the check box is checked at 0.0MB.
Is this setting correct?

2) MSN Explorer - the checkbox is checked at 20.7MB
Is this setting correct?
What is the difference between Internet explorer and MSN Explorer?
Which of those two Explorers is installed to my system?

Does 0.0MB indicate that this particular component is already installed?

Yes that Correct I have it on My computer 0.0MB
2) MSN Explorer - the checkbox is checked at 20.7MB
Is this setting correct?

Yes but to be honest I Have it 13.7 MBs it depends on the Installation Kind
and the Updates.
What is the difference between Internet explorer and MSN Explorer?

The same as if you asked what the Difference between Outlook and Outlook
Express?.
One Install by Default with Internet Explorer (IE) and the Other stand alone
application came with Microsoft Office and integrated with it and MS Exchange.

Here is MS Explorer:
MS:: <Quote>
MSN Explorer is software that packages the Internet, giving people a more
predictable, comfortable, intuitive and productive way to take advantage of
everything Internet, from Web searching and shopping to email and instant
messaging. Unlike America Online (AOL), for example, MSN Explorer doesn't
create a "walled garden" that limits users' content options and makes it
difficult to get out. Instead, it is an online client designed to make it
easy for people who are just starting to use the Internet, while also
empowering more experienced users to get the most from their time online.

"The usability team has helped to create Microsoft's most consumer-friendly
product ever," said Bob Visse, lead product manager for MSN at Microsoft. "
By creating personas and conducting user research, field studies and
laboratory testing, the team shaped the outcome of the product based on what
they found users need and want.

"MSN Explorer is more than just a browser. It's a totally integrated
Internet experience," Visse said. "When you log on to MSN Explorer, you can
see right there in the interface how many instant messaging buddies are
online, how many email messages you have in your inbox, the weather
conditions specific to your local area, and links to local news. So it's a
personalized experience that blurs the line between local software
applications and Internet services and activities, offering an overall great
experience for consumers."
MS::</Quote>

IE:
Is a web browser as Opera, Netscape, Mozilla, Avant and so On, is the user
Web Interface to search and Connect to the outer world after establishing a
connection through an account and surf the net, open websites and so on and
does have Outlook Express integrated with it.

You have Both Installed, if the Box opposite MSN is checked then you have
installed if not which I doubt is not checked or else you will not see the
Size of the folder or Application.
Which of those two Explorers is installed to my system?

Does 0.0MB indicate that this particular component is already installed?

Yes it is installed, are you able to use IE to surf the net?.

1) Internet Explorer - the check box is checked at 0.0MB. Is this setting correct?

Yes! Because it just hides/shows Internet Explorer shortcuts. Does not install/uninstall the program itself.

Should be correct. If you want to double-check the figures, you may calculate the individual file size (files listing is available in %windir%\inf\msnmsn.inf), add them and get the total size.
