Windows classic style changes at start up to XP style

I setup Windows classic style long ago but now at start-up it reverts to
Windows XP style. any ideas how to stop thus? It also changes the font size
from large to normal.

Using XP professional. This is not happening on my XP home edition
computer. I access this feature from >desktop>display properties>appearance>
then bottom left of window.

appreciate any help. Also if I should post this under XP general please
suggest. Thanks

Hi Gene:

You may have inadvertently done this by yourself, or your security
software may have forced the change. Sometimes if you install a major
update to Windows, like a service pack, certain settings will be reset
to default.

Thanks and I am positive you are correct since I have numerous security
features added recently but here is hoping someone has an idea where I can
look to stop this from changing back at every start -up. I have looked at
each program but no idea where to go from here.

Almost any theme other than Windows Classic needs the Themes service
running. Windows Classic theme does not need the Themes service running.
Disable the Themes service.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | Click the V next to Startup type |
Select Disabled | Click the Apply button | Click the Stop button |
When the Themes service has stopped, click OK | Close Services

With the Themes service disabled, Windows XP will not even listed on Display
Properties, Themes tab, Theme list.

Wesley, that was the fix I needed. Thanks so much. One final question.
Since this issue arose from changes being made...do you have any suggestion
of other areas I might search to look for modifications to my system? That
is probably a far fetched question but I don't know if there are trends you
may be aware.

Regardless again thanks much for this fix.

Hi Gene,

Some Windows Updates change settings that wouldn't even imagine.

MS Word can even change system settings.

MS Word | Tools | Customize | Options tab |
Menu animations

Menu animations:
Changes the way menus display when you click on a command. For example,
Slide Menu Animation causes the menus to display with a sliding motion.

Menu animations if not set to (system Default) will change...
Display Properties | Appearance tab | Effects button |
Use the following transition effect for menus and tooltips

Use the following transition effect for menus and tooltips
[[Specifies whether to activate animations for menu commands and other
Windows elements. Animations change how menus, lists, and tooltips open and
close.]]

With the box selected you get these choices:
[[Lists the available transition effects. Click Scroll effect for menus,
lists, and tooltips to slide in and out, or click Fade effect to allow them
to fade-in when you open them and dissolve when you close them.]]

It took me the longest time to figure out that MS Word was causing the
problem and even longer how to make it quit doing it.
