Change desktop color of Windows XP style

Hi. I can't change the colour of my desktop (toolbars etc) if I choose
Windows xp style. It works if I choose Classic style but I prefer xp style.
Is this at all possible? (I've tried installing xp themes but they don't work
in xp style either.)

Try this.

Right click the Desktop | Properties | Appearance tab |
Change to Windows Classic style in Windows and buttons

[[NOTE: You can change the look of individual items if you select Windows
Classic style in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab of
Display Properties. (Right-click an empty area of your desktop, then click
Properties, and then click the Appearance tab). If you select a visual style
other than Windows Classic, that style determines the appearance of your
menus, fonts, icons, and other Window elements. ]]

I understand that I can change the colors if I choose Classic style but can't
I change the color in Windows XP style? I prefer this more rounded style. I
don't like the classic...

Windows Classic style in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab
of Display Properties, *NOT* Windows Classic theme on the Themes tab of
Display Properties. These are two entirely different things.

If you select a visual style other than Windows Classic, that style
determines the appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window
elements. Including Windows and buttons.

Windows and buttons
[[Lists the visual styles that are available for the theme that is currently
selected on the Themes tab. Click the visual style you want to use.]]

If you do this:
1. Open the display properties and then the Appearance tab.
2. Change Windows and buttons to Windows XP Style.
3. The color scheme will change to allow you to select the schemes Blue,
Olive and Silver.

Those are the only choices you get.

If you change Windows and buttons to Windows Classic style, you can change
the look of individual items, you also get way more colors under Color
scheme.

The Elder Geek on Windows and Buttons...
[[In [Windows and Buttons] there are only two options. They are [Windows XP
Style] and [Windows Classic] style. If you download and install additional
[Themes] they will be listed here also, but read the next warning regarding
how they are effected by the [Advanced] button.

The [Advanced] button (Fig. UI-50) may be accessed without regard to the
[Windows and Buttons], [Color Scheme], and [Font Size] settings.
Additionally, you can make changes, but heed the warning "If you select a
windows and button setting other than Windows Classic, it will override the
following settings, except in some older programs." To ensure the changes
you make will be visible, select [Windows Classic Style] from the [Windows
and Buttons] drop down.]]

I would have to say that considering how widespread the windows operating
system is the fact that you only get 3 choices in xp style is deeply
dissapointing. surely it wouldn't be ahrd to creat some extra
"themes/schemes" for download.

i thought the idea was to make windows more personal... that at the moment
is very hard to achieve with such limited personalisation.
