Windows boot problem (making a repair disk)

I've got an XP Home laptop that won't boot. Error msg reads: "Windows could
not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\WINDOWS|SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM\" then it tells you to insert the setup CD,
reboot, and hit r for repair. When I traded for it I thaught I had an XP CD
then I realized I kept it with my other computer when I sold it.
I am pretty sure it is a registry problem. I searched the internet for
instructions for making a repair disk and found a program called bcd
(bootable CD). I followed the instructions and one step had you run the
following command from the cmd prompt: "xpsp2_en_x86.exe
-s:c:\bcd\cds\wxphome\files\". I didn't have the service pack 2
installlation file and luckally I found it using Limewire (i know it's
illegal). I ran the command and an error msg came back saying something like
the files to be integrated must be in an i386 folder.
I was wandering if I am doing anything wrong
Here is the site I used so you can see what I mean
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/wxp/

Contact the person you got the laptop from and ask them for the disk.that
came with the laptop. They were supposed to give it to you.

I followed the steps on the website. I have reached the screen where it
should pop up for me to hit "r" for repair the xp but instead options for two
diff partitions and an unpartitioned space popped up. Should i install them
or delete them?
