Windows Boot Manager

Bob

Hi,

I have Vista Home and Vista Business on different partitions on the same
computer. I'm trying to use Vista boot manager to control which one I boot
and it seems that boot manager will not boot a hidden partition.

Because I must unhide the partition to boot, Vista Home now has access to
Vista Business's partition.

How can I use boot manager without it revealing the other systems C-Drive?

Thanks!

Hello Bob,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

From your post, it seems you must use third party utility to do. For
example: VistaBoot Pro.

It looks like VistaBootPro is simply a GUI to BCDedit.

But my question more about Vista's Boot Manager. It seems to me that Boot
Manager is incapable of booting a hidden partition.

For example: I've Vista Home on partiton 1 and Vista Enterprise on partition
2. When I have both partitions un-hidden and boot Enterprise, the C-Drive
is Vista Home and the D-Drive is Vista Enterprise.

When I use third party boot managers such as PowerQuest PQboot to dual boot
XP, it hides partition 1 and boots partition 2. (PQboot doesn't support
Vista). I don't know of any third party boot manager for Vista, do you?
(VistaBootPro doesn't seem to be a boot manager).

In other words, it seems that Vista relies on both partitions. I'm guessing
it boots the kernal on partition 1 in all cases and then uses either
partition 1 or 2 (depending on what I want), to continue the boot process.

Is this how it works in Vista or have I something messed up?

XP did not have any reliance on the any other XP boot other than the one I
targeted. Although it should be said I've never used XP's boot manager, so
maybe it does the same thing that the Vista boot manager does.

Thanks,

Bob.

Hi Bob,

Maybe there is third party boot manager utility to boot a hidden partition.
