Windows Automatic Update

I am running WindowsXP Home edition. I am attempting to set my computer up
to automatically download WindowsXP Service Pak 2 when it is released. I
have run into a perplexing problem trying to do this.

When I click on Start/Control Panel/System/Automatic Update all of the
options are grayed out and there is a statement that "The Windows Update
Service is unavailable".

When I go to Strat/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/Automatic
Update the Startup Type is set to Automatic and the Service status is set to
Start.

When I click Start, I get the following error message: "Could not start the
Automatic Update Service on Local Computer. Error 1083: The executable
program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the
service.

1. What does the error message mean?
2. How do I enable automatic update?

Go to the following website and scroll down to Line 179, right side. Click
the "Windows Update Greyed Out - Restore" link to download the reg file.
Double click the file to run.
