The latest Win7 build I have tried (7264, dated July 1st) still allows
the hack where you copy over a working WM from a Vista system.
There is no guarantee that the final (RTM) version will accommodate
that hack.
 
If I do an in-place upgrade to 7 from Vista will WM work?

You'll have to wait for the final RTM builds to know that.
 
No. You can only make it work with the hack I described.
Incidentally, I am sending this post via Windows Mail running
in Win7 build 7264.
