My C drive has been occupied by XP Pro. I wanted to install 98SE and did not
know how. I did not want to use Partition Magic or the like. Can I just use
the setup disks of both O/S, then install both of them okay? (while having
XP Pro active on my c drive already, I can move it to other partition if I
can do so, but don't know how)
Thanks

Well you'll have to unless you want to re-format your HDD

You CANNOT have two Operating systems on the same partition. You MUST
install each one on a separate partition, and you can only do that by either
a) using something like Partition Magic or b) re-formatting your HDD and
then creating new partitions.

In either case make sure you have adequate and fool-proof backups of all
your data first.

Do you have to reformat your hard drive in order to put a new partition in? I
thought you could put a partition in whenever you feel like it...BTW. when
you install, for example, XP Pro, you can restart your computer and it comes
to this blue screen that asks if you want to partition your hard-drive, and
then it asks if you want to format it... How do you get to that screen when
you already have XP installed?

You can't do that when it's already installed. Also, you need to install
Win98 before WinXP if you want a dual boot so that leaves formatting and
partitioning from scratch.

Not if you use a partition manager such as Partition Magic - but the OP said
he didn't /want/ to use a partition manager!

No, you don't have to format to partition if you use a program like
Partition Magic..

To get to the blue screen where you get the option to partition and format,
you boot from the XP CD.. any attempt to partition and format a drive from
here will erase anything already on the drive..
