Hi, all
I have a remote netwok consisting about of 11 workstations. This network
connected to major network via VPN using PPTP. There are Windows 2000 Server
installed on both points of tunel. Most of workstations of remote network
are XP Prof and three ones are 98. All workstations get IP settings from
DHCP server which is installed on gateway server. All DCs and DNS server are
in major office. The problem is authentication of 98 clients to the domain.
All XP clients logon to domain pretty fast and without problems. But 98
while logging on show an error: "The password couldn't be recognized by any
domain controller. Some network resources can be unavailable". If I click
Ok, user can start MS Outlook and logon to the Exchange server, which is in
the major server too, and use network resources. But why I get such error?
Does 98 try to find DC by broadcase requests?
Thanks.

Mykhaylo,
Windows 98 uses netbios name resolution to find the domain, not DNS. So
probably the easiest thing to do in your case since you only have 3 Windows
98 computers is to create an lmhosts file for those 3 machines.

This article should help you out:
